Why the journal exists

A record built for practising surgeons, not just for citation counts.

JOrTR exists to give orthopaedic surgeons across Karnataka a rigorous, regionally-grounded place to publish, and every clinician a reliable place to read.

Evidence

Peer review, practised like medicine

Clinically-led, evidence-based, and rigorous — every submission is reviewed by two practising orthopaedic surgeons before an editorial decision is made. This is peer review at its clinical best.

Reach

Regional research, visible nationally

Case series and outcomes data from Karnataka's hospitals and medical colleges, indexed for national reference.

Education

CME-linked reading

Select issues are mapped to KOA's CME calendar, so reading the journal counts toward credit hours.

Access

Open to every member

Full-text access is free to all KOA members, with no paywall between a surgeon and the evidence.

About the journal

Scope, history and editorial policy

Scope

The Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and Reconstruction (JOrTR) publishes original research, systematic reviews, case series, technical notes and CME articles across trauma, arthroplasty, spine, sports medicine, paediatric orthopaedics, oncology and basic science. Submissions are welcomed from members and non-members alike, in India and abroad.

History

First published in 2011 to give the state's orthopaedic community a dedicated scientific record, the journal grew out of KOA's own conference proceedings. In 2023, under then Associate Editor Dr. Avinash Parthasarathy, it was renamed the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and Reconstruction (JOrTR) to reflect its sharpened editorial focus. It now publishes two issues a year, timed around KOACON and the association's mid-year academic calendar.

Editorial policy

JOrTR follows a double-blind peer review process in line with ICMJE recommendations. Authors retain copyright; the journal publishes under a CC BY-NC licence. All submissions are screened for originality prior to review.

Indexing

Indexed with IndMED and the Index Copernicus database, with an application for PubMed Central indexing under review as of the current volume.
